The Byzantine Tower of Agios Basilios, 15 metres high, was built in the 14th century and it is most likely that it did not serve the purpose of defending the city, but was related to the supply of fishing and agricultural goods from the lake and the surrounding fertile area.
According to tradition, Pyrgos and the village got their name when they were dedicated to this saint by the emperor Basil I of Macedonia (9th century).
After admiring the monument, walk to the nearby park and then you can taste delicious food in the taverns around it.
