The “Akylineia” in Zagliveri

The municipal unit Kalindoia is located in the northeastern part of the prefecture of Thessaloniki at the foot of the mountain range Chortiatis and Mount Holomontas of Halkidiki.

Its headquarters in Zagliveri is a 35-minute drive from Langadas. Zagliveri was first founded in the 2nd century AD and is the continuation of the ancient Macedonian city of Kalindoia.

It is worth visiting the house in which Saint Aquilina of Zagliverini lived, who died a martyr’s death in 1764 and in whose memory the five-day cultural events “Aquilinea” are organized on September 23-27.

The house of the Saint where the place of her martyrdom in 1764 is preserved until today. A candle that burns night and day indicates the respect of the Zagliverinians to Saint Aquilina whom they honour during the Akylina.

The “Akylineia” are five-day cultural events organized with great pomp every year from 23-27 September, the feast day of Saint Akylina.
