The abandoned village of Nea Sebasteia, Sochos

On the northeast side of Mount Vertiskos at an altitude of 800 meters and just 7 km from Soho, is the abandoned village of Nea Sebasteia.

The village was established by refugees from the “Sevas” area of Asia Minor (Anatolia) in 1922 and was abandoned due to the difficult living conditions in the 1970s.

The old residents visit and perform divine services until today the church of the village, the church of Saint George.

No resident lives in the village anymore while a lost film of Theodoros Angelopoulos has been shot during the YENED (Dictatorship Era) of Greece.
